SeaVoice Launches Blue Tech: Exploring the Role of Technology in Ocean Conservation and Heritage
SeaVoice, an initiative of the CHFP, has released its new volume, Blue Tech, on July 1st, now available on the SeaVoice website. This issue explores how technology is transforming scientific research, exploration, and providing solutions to the challenges faced by oceans and their communities.
Blue Tech highlights a range of technological advancements, from futuristic deep-sea vehicles that aid in exploring the ocean’s uncharted areas, to innovative methods for uncovering and preserving submerged cultural heritage. Pressing issues like ocean pollution are also addressed, exemplified by the story of the “1000 Tyres” clean up initiative.
Including narratives like Erick Asencio’s journey in sustainable fishing in the Galápagos, ARRI’s use of drones to tackle ghost gear, Oceanhub’s impactful tech adaptations for African coastal communities, and Brian Palmer’s exploration of integrating scientific and traditional knowledge, this volume reveals how tech innovations can enhance conservation efforts whilst also fostering community engagement. These stories showcase the diverse ways technology can harmonize with traditional practices to protect marine biodiversity and support local economies.
Other highlights include the promising field of seaweed technology, with articles like “Seaweed is Sexy: The Untapped Treasure of Our Seas” and “Navigating the Tides: Small-Holder Farmers Charting the Future of Seaweed Farming.”
