Arctic Heritage and Indigenous Knowledge at NARI AGM

Next week, Dr. Paul Montgomery, a representative of the UNESCO Ocean Decade project “Indigenous People, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and Climate Change: The Iconic Underwater Cultural Heritage of Stone Tidal Weirs,” a Cultural Heritage Framework Programme (CHFP)  project initiative, will give a talk at the Network of Arctic Researchers in Ireland (NARI) Annual General Meeting. The event will take place on 2 December at the University of Galway.

Dr. Montgomery will discuss the wider goals of the Ocean Decade and focus on the ecological and cultural significance of stone tidal weirs, which are essential to Arctic Indigenous communities. These structures not only support local ecosystems but also reflect generations of traditional knowledge and sustainable practices.

This presentation will highlight the vital role of Indigenous knowledge in addressing climate change and preserving marine cultural heritage.
