Call for CHFP Ocean Decade Endorsement

As the only UN Ocean Decade programme specifically dedicated to cultural heritage, CHFP provides a unique platform for projects that explore past and present human-ocean interactions, helping us achieve the ocean we want.

The UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) focuses on enhancing ocean science and knowledge to address the challenges facing our ocean ecosystems. Endorsement by CHFP allows initiatives to align with the Ocean Decade’s vision and contribute to its overarching goals. Endorsed Actions can be either projects or activities that foster understanding and appreciation of marine cultural heritage.

Endorsement Criteria

To become endorsed by the CHFP, your initiative should align with our vision of integrating marine cultural heritage into ocean science and policy. We are particularly interested in initiatives that:

  • Highlight intangible heritage, such as traditional ecological knowledge and practices.
  • Focus on tangible heritage, including shipwrecks and coastal structures.
  • Develop informed solutions for future challenges and foster inclusive sustainable adaptation

We are accepting applications from appropriate projects and activities:

  • Projects: Discrete and focused undertakings that may be regional, national, or subnational, longer than one year, and have sufficient funding.
  • Activities: One-off events, webinars, conferences, workshops, publications, and creative outputs, ranging from a minimum of one day to a maximum of one year in duration.

Why Get Endorsed?

Getting endorsed by the CHFP enhances your project’s visibility, aligns it with global marine cultural heritage initiatives, and connects you with a network of like-minded organisations committed to sustainable ocean practices.

Once programmes and projects are endorsed, they will be authorized to display the Ocean Decade logo on their platforms and will  receive guidance on its appropriate usage. Additionally, endorsed events—including webinars, conferences, exhibits, and workshops—will be featured on the Ocean Decade Network by the Decade Team.

How to Get Endorsed

Interested parties can submit a request for endorsement through the Ocean Decade website by 31st January 2025.
